Basically a show between two ace fighter pilots of enemy countries that alternates between their sides of the story each episode. The two countries have been on and off at war for decades and while the younger pilot is gung-ho for national pride, the older one is a world weary mercenary who gets called on in desperation for more pilots. As the story goes on both aces are built up to take on their counterpart in the opposing nation as the younger one's nation builds a flying superfortress. The climax has him assigned to protect it as a forward guard for when they fly it into enemy territory.
The twist is that they're the same man 13 years apart. His younger self let the enemy ace off a confirmed takedown shot so they could shoot down the superweapon. He became disillusioned with the war after watching the superweapon raze city after city to the ground and defected not soon after a short ceasefire was brokered. He took on a dead mercenary friend's identity when he heard that his former homeland was building the monster again and the finale has him surviving the airborne carnage long enough to maneuver his plane into the superweapon's weakpoint.
Were you expecting a confession of this being inspired by Ace Combat 7? Too bad! It's just a confession of inspiration by Girly Air Force which was clearly the deranged writings of a man who mained Gripen in the games! I hadn't even gotten around to joining the Three Strikes Nation till like two months ago! Not much else I can say about this one except that I would have given it a knightly aesthetic ala AC0 with the MC taking down the dragon he once protected... wait a second, isn't this basically Ace Combat: Dragonheart? Oh well. AVE BELKA!
